Field service, repairs and small retrofits for local manufacturers
Metal finishing, industrial manufacturing, HVAC. Scope: on-site PLC troubleshooting, repair parts and rewiring, drive retrofits, small panel builds.
The challenge
Not every job is a new line-up. Local plants call when a production machine stops making parts, when an old drive needs replacing, or when they need a small panel built correctly and quickly. These jobs are small, but downtime is expensive, and the customer needs one point of contact to diagnose the problem, supply the parts, and get the work done.
What we did
Die-cutting "clicker" press: PLC field maintenance and rewiring (2026). A manufacturer's 75-ton hydraulic clicker press needed attention to its controls. Working with our field controls partner, we handled:
- the PLC program and its software license;
- repair parts;
- field wiring.
On site, the team traced erratic table-height and setpoint signals to an unstable 10 V / 12 V reference supply, and rewired the transducer and potentiometers so they could run from a dedicated replacement supply. The work ran across five service orders during the year. The plant then asked for help at its other facilities.
Plating-shop spin dryer: drive upgrade and refurbishment (2022–23 and 2026).
- First refurbishment. We picked up a plating line's parts spin dryer and refurbished its control box. We tested the drive and operator controls in our shop, then delivered the unit back.
- 2026 upgrade. When the plant needed a new drive, we pulled our build records from the earlier job and quoted a fresh assembly: an enclosed LS drive in a 16" × 12" × 7" enclosure, with a braking resistor and a three-pole fuse block. The order covers pickup at the plant, the upgrade in our shop and return of the refurbished dryer.
HVAC equipment: manual motor-protector panels (2025). For an HVAC controls and equipment firm, we built two 480 V manual motor-protector panels, one for motors up to 5 HP and one for motors up to 10 HP, and shipped them to the job.
The result
Each customer had one local point of contact for diagnosis, parts and labor. The plating shop came back to us for the second spin-dryer upgrade, and the press work led to an invitation to help at the manufacturer's other sites.
What it shows: the everyday side of an engineering and panel shop: coordinated on-site PLC troubleshooting, retrofit drive assemblies built from our own records, and small panel builds, for customers within driving distance.
